This 1965 Fender Duo-Sonic Peter Green used on his In The Skies album is going under the hammer
A 1965 Fender Duo-Sonic once owned and used by British blues legend Peter Green is hitting the auction block next month.
While most are probably familiar with the Fleetwood Mac founder’s legendary “Greeny” Les Paul Standard — which currently sits in the hands of Metallica axeman Kirk Hammett, the Fender Duo-Sonic, too, boasts a solid history any fan of Green would appreciate.

According to Gardiner Houlgate, the instrument has seen plenty of action with Green across “many gigs and recording sessions”.
Notably, Green used the guitar during the recording of his second solo album In The Skies. Released in 1979, In The Skies marks the musician’s first album after eight years of obscurity, and is often touted as Green’s best solo record to date. The Fender Duo-Sonic was also used on 1980’s Little Dreamer, which featured tracks mostly written by Green’s brother Mike.
For those well-versed in guitar history, the short-scale offset has also received a fair bit of love from the likes of Jimi Hendrix and John Lennon back in the day. Gardiner Houlgate notes that this is the only 60s Fender they have in the forthcoming auction (3 September), and that the guitar is estimated to fetch between £2,000 – £4,000.

Meanwhile, joining Green’s Fender Duo-Sonic at the auction is a super rare TV Yellow Gibson SG Junior, once owned by the legendary Gary Moore.
“This guitar was used for some of the press photo sessions for the BBM Tour, Jack Bruce, Ginger Baker and Gary Moore,” said auctioneer Luke Hobbs. “It was also used on some of the sessions for Blues For Greeny and it does appear on the VHS. And there is one track in particular that this features on, and you can see that up on YouTube, Showbiz Blues. There’s some fantastic playing there where Gary Moore is using a slide but it just sounds incredible.”
