“World-changing guitar songs”: Slipknot’s Corey Taylor teases new solo album

Corey Taylor spoke about his upcoming solo album in a recent video interview, talking about its current progress and the musical direction that it will take.
The Slipknot frontman is charging ahead and shows no sign of slowing down. “I’ve got 26 songs written, and I’m not done yet,” Taylor said in the interview with WhatCulture Music which was published 14 November.
Taylor says the album will definitely be rock-based, though it certainly won’t be cookie-cutter. “There will be harder-edged stuff, but there also will be big, expansive, huge, world-changing guitar songs that you’re going to want to sing along to,” he said. “That’s just who I am, and I’m not going to fight who I am.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Taylor also talked about this musical involvement with TV series The Boys, culminating in the release of the music video for Solway Firth, which featured footage from the show. “It all just kind of lined up perfectly,” he said. The singer-songwriter also admitted to being a big fan of the original comic book series and was ecstatic when the chance to be involved in the TV show presented itself.
“They sent me some early episodes and I was losing my mind, so I was like ‘yes, yes – give them whatever they want’,” he continued. “Solway Firth – it just worked, it was perfect.”
Corey’s Slipknot bandmate Sid Wilson also recently announced a solo album of his own. Wilson’s upcoming record is the second instalment of a trilogy of releases, and follows the first one which arrived in August 2018. Wilson’s album is slated for release on 13 December, and features guests like Killah Priest, DJ Q-Bert and guitarist Bizzythowed.
Slipknot’s recent album We Are Not Your Kind has been met with critical acclaim, earning a five-star review on NME. Reviewer Jordan Bassett described the album as “an astonishing record: a roaring, horrifying delve into the guts of the band’s revulsion, a primal scream of endlessly inventive extreme metal and searing misanthropy”.
