“You have the best artwork on your pedals and you choose to do this?” Walrus Audio slammed for using AI on 4th of July post
Walrus Audio has faced backlash for sharing an AI-generated image on 4th July.
The popular US-based pedal company has long been respected for the unique illustrations and artwork that adorn its pedals – and are designed by actual human artists.

So when it shared a clearly AI-generated image of a walrus sitting on deckchair holding a firework sparkler and a pink electric guitar as part of its Independence Day celebrations, fans were quick to take issue.

“Happy 4th of July from the Walrus crew. Stay safe out there. Remember, someone in the US woke up this morning not knowing this will be their last day with all 10 fingers,” the post reads.
In response, one user comments: “Lame AI art from a company whose pedals have some of the most recognisable and unique art adorning them. Why not pay an artist to do this?”
Another shares similar frustration, highlighting how AI threatens the careers of artists and designs.
“Man come on. You guys literally employ artists,” they write. “Do you have the best artwork on pedals and choose to do this? I’ll remember this when I’m looking for a new delay pedal.”
A similar comment follows suit criticising the poor taste of the post and AI’s impact on the environment: “Really disappointing to see AI here. Bad for artists, accelerates climate change, bad for humanity.”
For the controversy, though, Walrus Audio don’t seem all too bothered, and haven’t removed the post five days later, which now has over 1,600 likes and 125 comments.
