Clarity M vs LM2n Discrepancies
I’ve been a user of the LM2n plugin (which is great) for a while and have recently splashed out on the Clarity M (which is awesome!). But I’ve noticed a discrepancy in the reporting of some of the readings between the LM2n and the Clarity.
I tested them with a 30 second except of a track using the Clarity plugin and the LM2n on the same stereo audio master channel in Pro Tools. The LM2n consistently reports higher True-Peak Max and PLR values compared to the Clarity. The Program Loudness value is also lower on the LM2n on average by about 0.3 LUFS each time:
Clarity:
Program Loudness = -7.2 LUFS
Max Momentary Loudness (M) = -5.3 LUFS
True-Peak Max = 0.2 dBTP
Peak to Loudness = 7.5 dB
LM2n:
Program Loudness = -7.5 LUFS
Max Momentary Loudness (M) = -5.3 LUFS
True-Peak Max = 1.0 dBTP
Peak to Loudness = 8.4 dB
Given that they’re both running as plugins and both calibrated to the same settings, I can’t think what might account for the discrepancy?
(System details: Pro Tools 2018.4 on macOS 10.13.4, Clarity Firmware v2.0.3 / Plugin v2.0.0.58 AAX, LM2n v1.1.2 AAX)
