Brad Paisley says there will be a “lot of differences” between the ‘Lost’ Telecasters he makes vs. Fender’s: “Fender has standards, I don’t”
Brad Paisley has revealed there will be a lot of significant differences between the Lost Telecasters he’s making himself compared to the run that Fender is taking on.
Paisley and Fender’s unique collaboration was announced earlier this May with the launch of the first limited-edition signature “Lost Paisley”, based on his own ultra-rare 1967 blue paisley Tele.
It’s a fitting collaboration for the man who shares a name with these rare guitars, and also pays homage to the short-lived models which were released for the “Summer of Love” and later discontinued due to their vulnerable finishes.

The new signature marked the first of many, with the Fender Custom Shop in Corona, California, set to produce 67, while Paisley – in collaboration with the Fender Nashville R&D team – will personally build 19 paisley models as a tribute to the original’s creation. The former will be sold through Fender’s dealer network while Paisley’s 19 units will be available exclusively through his channels.
In a new interview with Guitar World, he says there will be differences between his models and Fender’s across aspects like pickups, finishes, and more. “There’ll be a lot of differences,” he says.
“With the 19 that I make, I have a style of making these that is similar, but different. With mine, I’m getting the guitar in pieces, and then I’m applying the finish to it myself, and you’ll get a time-lapse video of that being done. And Fender has standards, I don’t,” he states.
“I don’t know what the pickups are going to be. I may put one together and go with a Seymour set, or I may put one together and go with a Lindy Fralin in the bridge. I might feel like it needs a Curtis Novak neck pickup because I have guitars like that.
“I mean, that’s the beauty of that. Maybe I’ll tell you what’s in it, or maybe you’ll have to take it apart to see. [laughs] I’m going to give birth to 19 of these, and they’re all going to be different.”
The first Lost Paisley, which is out now, features a lightweight body made from alder, paulownia, and spruce. It’s fitted with a custom ’60s oval C-shape maple neck and a round-laminated maple fretboard, and hosts Seymour Duncan Custom Shop Hand-Wound Lost Paisley pickups.
