The guitar has an Olympic White alder body with a matching headcap and a Modern C maple neck with a 9.5” radius rosewood fingerboard. The guitar pairs a Seymour Duncan JB humbucker in the bridge with a Player Series Alnico V Jazzmaster single-coil in the neck. Fender says the combination is designed to cover everything from “articulate textures” to heavier, more aggressive tones.
Other features include rolled fingerboard edges and white pearloid block inlays, plus a vintage-style floating tremolo and a Jazzmaster bridge with Mustang saddles. Tuning duties go to ClassicGear machine heads with an 18:1 gear ratio.
Fender says the guitar reflects Gordon’s long relationship with the Jazzmaster and her approach to the instrument, which it describes as defined by “dissonance, texture and restraint.” Gordon is best known as a bassist, but has regularly returned to guitar in the studio and onstage and the Jazzmaster has long been associated with the no-wave and noise rock scenes she emerged from.
“One thing that’s great about the Jazzmaster, if you have a guitar that sounds good by just plugging it into an amplifier, it doesn’t need effects,” said Gordon. “That’s really satisfying.”
Justin Norvell, Fender’s Chief Product Officer for Guitars and Basses, said the company wanted to “capture that sense of individuality and experimentation while staying true to the character and feel of the Jazzmaster.” He added that the two pickup types give players “the freedom to explore” whether they’re chasing noise, writing songs or looking for new sounds.
The model is the latest instalment in Fender’s The One. For All. campaign, which celebrates artists who reinterpret the company’s instruments. Fender has also released a demo video of the guitar featuring Lauren Andino, alongside a launch film in its Artist Signature Series.
