Gibson teams up with MyMusicRx for virtual guitar lessons for child patients

Gibson has teamed up with the Children’s Cancer Association (CCA) to bring virtual music lessons to child patients served by MyMusicRx – the CCA’s flagship program. The guitar brand will also be giving away a host of instruments to raise funds for the non-profit organisation.
The joint program kicked off yesterday (8 June) with the first of a series of videos featuring Southern rocker Marcus King, who performed music to and answered questions by MyMusicRx-served kids. The series runs until 19 June – take a look at the first episode below.

Additionally, 18 artists from the Gibson Generation Group – the brand’s two-year mentorship program for talented young guitar players – will be sharing video lessons on the MyMusicRx website, which can be accessed by child patients and the public alike.
Finally, Gibson will be hosting a fundraiser giveaway of Epiphone, Gibson and Kramer instruments, in support of the MyMusicRx program.
To enter, each participant is asked to make a donation through the CCA’s website. Prizes include a vintage sunburst Epiphone Casino, a Kramer Assault Plus, three Gibson Les Paul Tributes, and an Epiphone Masterbilt-DR500 acoustic-electric.
The MyMusicRx program employs music specialists to engage with child patients of all ages and diagnoses to relieve stress, anxiety and perception of pain. The program further extends online to involve performances and music lessons from celebrated artists.
CCA president and general manager Danielle York noted that the imposed quarantines due to COVID-19 have placed a particular strain on the kids and their families. “The children and families we serve are even more deeply impacted during this time of quarantine and social distancing – which is why we’re rapidly innovating ways to create and share Joy,” she said.
“We are so grateful to Gibson and Marcus King for helping us find new and exciting ways to virtually connect these kids with the healing power of music.”
