Ibanez unveils the classy Artcore Expressionist AMH90

Ibanez has unveiled its newest model for 2021, the Artcore Expressionist AMH90. The guitar is an electric semi-hollow body, fitted with a number of traditional jazz guitar features and a few twists.
The most notable features of the AMH90 are found in its electronics. The guitar features a set of Super 58 humbuckers. These have a relatively low-output, retaining clarity and dynamics even with thicker strings. The neck is wired to a “tri-sound” toggle switch, which allows it to function in one of three ways – with both its coils active and in series, with only one coil active or with both coils active and in parallel.
Aside from this, the switching arrangement should be familiar to fans of HH guitars, with separate volume and tone controls for each pickup, and a three-way selector switch.
The guitar’s double-cutaway body features a linden top, back and sides – linden is a variation of basswood – and a set three-piece nyatoh and maple neck. This is topped with a bound macassar ebony neck, with abalone dot inlays and 22 medium frets.
A 24.75-inch / 628mm scale-length is completed by a floating VT06 tailpiece and tune-o-matic Gibraltar bridge. The shorter scale means jazz players will be able to use heavier-wound strings for a warmer sound without introducing too much tension into the mix.
You can hear it in action with Ibanez’s official demo, performed by Ikuto Shimizu, below.
