Listen: Scarlet, an unreleased Rolling Stones song with Jimmy Page
A never-before-heard Rolling Stones song featuring guitarist Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin has been released. Entitled Scarlet, the track was originally recorded in October 1974, and also featured Blind Faith’s Rick Grech on bass. Take a listen to it above.
In a statement, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards recalled the recording of the song, which took place during an impromptu session at the home of guitarist Ronnie Wood.
“I remember first jamming this with Jimmy and Keith in Ronnie’s basement studio. It was a great session,” said Jagger.
Richards added: “My recollection is we walked in at the end of a Zeppelin session. They were just leaving, and we were booked in next and I believe that Jimmy decided to stay. We weren’t actually cutting it as a track; it was basically for a demo, a demonstration, you know, just to get the feel of it, but it came out well, with a lineup like that, better use it, you know?”
The track arrives as part of the Stones’ comprehensive reissue of the 1973 album, Goats Head Soup, due out 4 September.
The deluxe edition of Goats Head Soup will also include the 15-track live album, Brussels Affair, recorded in Belgium in ‘73, mixed by famed engineer Bob Clearmountain.
