Listen: Vacancy, the second single taken from Neil Young’s upcoming LP Homegrown
Neil Young has shared Vacancy, the second single to come off his forthcoming album Homegrown – due to arrive 19 June through Reprise Records. Take a listen above.
According to Young’s archive website, the sessions for Vacancy took place in January of 1975 at the studio of his Broken Arrow Ranch. It features Young on guitar, harmonica and vocals, Stan Szelest on the Wurlitzer organ, Ben Keith on lap slide guitar, Tim Drummond on bass guitar, and Karl T. Himmel on drums.
Vacancy’s single release follows that of Try – which was recorded in 1974. Though Try’s studio recording was only officially released recently, Young has performed the number several times live, as well as in the fifth instalment of his Fireside Sessions.
Both songs are to be featured in the highly anticipated Homegrown – an album “hidden for decades”, according to the songwriter, describing it as “the unheard bridge between Harvest and Comes A Time”.
Earlier this month (6 June), Young penned an open letter, addressing the George Floyd protests for racial justice, President Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Joe Biden entitled Hope.
