Man spends $4,000 on signed Taylor Swift guitar at auction, smashes it immediately after
A man in Texas recently spent $4,000 on a signed Taylor Swift guitar at an auction, only to smash it just seconds after the purchase.
A video capturing the moment shows the white-haired man heading up on stage to collect his prize, before he grabbed a hammer from the auction staff and tore into the six-string. The body of the guitar, adorned with images of Swift from her record-breaking Eras Tour, was ripped apart as the crowd behind him laughed and cheered.
After shattering the instrument, the man returned to his seat with pieces of the guitar in hand while the auctioneer jokingly suggested he hang up “that busted thing.”

According to TMZ, the incident took place during the Ellis County Wild Game Dinner in Waxahachie, Texas, an annual event that raises funds for agricultural education for local youth. The guitar — one of many things auctioned off that night — was donated by a third party prior to Swift’s public endorsement of Kamala Harris and comes with a certificate of authenticity confirming it was indeed autographed by the popstar.
Auction attendee Rob Bartley, told The Independent of the viral moment: “A Taylor Swift guitar had sold at another event unrelated to this earlier in the year, so it wasn’t an unheard of type of item to auction.”
“That said… when the man announced his intention to smash it the camera phones came out.”
“It was unexpected, but not surprising,” Bartley added. “This part of Texas leans heavily conservative and the Biden/Harris administration isn’t held in high regard.”
“A lot of the working class people that live around me feel that the administration [had] gone from not working for us to working against us.”
The Anti Hero singer recently made headlines after endorsing Democratic nominee Kamala Harris for President.
“Recently I was made aware that AI of ‘me’ falsely endorsing Donald Trump’s presidential run was posted to his site. It really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation. It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter,” wrote Swift in an Instagram post following the televised Harris-Trump debate.
“The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth. I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election,” she added.
