Matty Healy hires 1975 cover band to perform at his bachelor party – and then performs with them onstage

We don’t know how much Matty Healy might have knocked back at his stag do, but we do know one thing – he was certainly seeing double. Ahead of Healy’s wedding to American model Gabbriette Leigh Bechtel, clips have surfaced of the 1975 frontman belting along to his own songs at his Malibu bachelor party, courtesy of cover band The 9075.
In each video that has been shared, Healy is having a marvellous time boogieing to his own music. One clip shows Healy even joining the band onstage to sing some of the 1975’s 2016 track The Sound (while also notably forgetting his own lyrics), before beckoning over his clone, the 9075 frontman, to take the reins.

Of course, all of Healy’s 1975 bandmates were there to celebrate the occasion. In fact, at one point in the evening, the gang and others attending the party even banded together to crowd surf Healy during a performance of Sex, with drummer George Daniel fanning Healy with a pink cowboy hat.

The Sex clip also seems to show lots of curly black wigs – which makes sense, as other photos from the evening suggest that the theme was ‘Matty Healy Through The Eras’. Not only were there multiple fluffy wigs, but a photo shared of the 1975 with their 9075 counterparts has plenty of nods to previous Healy outfits.

One notable outfit is Healy’s open, flowing flowery shirt from the 2013 Robbers music video. Another is a bright red wig, nodding to the video for Give Yourself A Try from the band’s 2018 record, A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships.
The news first broke when the 9075 shot an email update round to fans. “We wanted you to be among the first to know that right now we’re in Malibu, performing as a special guest band for Matty Healy’s stag do…” the band wrote. “It’s a pretty surreal moment for us.”

Back in December, rumours began to circulate about the 1975 having a pair of new albums ready to go. Frontman Healy attended a Q&A with students at Gateshead College, and a curious fan decided to ask whether a new album was coming. In a TikTok clip of the interaction, you can vaguely hear Healy responding: “We made two [records].”
The fan also specifically asked whether the new record would be called “DOGS”, due to a fan theory that Daniel’s 2025 Glastonbury drumkit had the word “DOGS” on it as a nod to a new era. Healy seemed to confirm that, yes, DOGS would be a name of an upcoming release. “It might be [album number] one, it might be two… but yeah, we’ve made two albums,” he said.
