Walrus Audio revives its Storybook Series with MKII versions of its much-loved Lore and Fable pedals
Four years after the launch of the Lore in 2022 – an ambient effects pedal built around five reverse delay and reverb programmes to evoke the concept of a storybook fantasy world – Walrus Audio has revived its Storybook Series with the Lore MKII. But that’s not all…
The Oklahoma audio company has actually unveiled two new pedals in the series, with the Fable MKII joining the new Lore version. The Lore MKII is marked as a Stereo Reverse Soundscape Generator, while the Fable MKII is a Stereo Granular Soundscape Generator. The original Fable landed in March 2023 as Walrus’s first granular delay pedal.

Both are built on Walrus Audio’s proprietary MDSP platform, developed entirely in-house and add full stereo operation with mono-in/stereo-out capability, MIDI control, clock sync, expression/external tap functionality and expanded presets. Each pedal has three onboard presets plus a Live mode, with up to 127 presets accessible via MIDI.
Both pedals run five custom dual-effect algorithms with complex feedback paths. The feedback and regen controls loop through these paths to build evolving stereo textures that Walrus describes as closer to instruments than effects.
A multifunction tweak control covers width, mod rate, mod shape, shift and ramp. A momentary dive/rise function lets players manipulate the clock rate in real time.
Two distinctive approaches
The Lore MKII’s algorithms range from reverse delay into reverse reverb to dual pitch delay combinations, producing reversed swells, octave shimmers, dark textures, sustained pads and intricate pitch-delay patterns. Separate feedback paths let sounds keep evolving rather than simply repeating.
The Fable MKII pairs delay with granular processing, which manipulates short sound samples through different playback speeds, directions and positions. Its five modes cover reversed textures, bright octave-up cascades, deep octave-down ambience, glitchy clouds and randomised pitch effects. Dual feedback paths can take sounds from smooth ambience to chaotic granular swarms.

Each pedal comes in two finishes: an illustrated standard version with artwork by English illustrator Niall Grant (Green for the Lore, Gray for the Fable) and a Minimal Black version with a simplified icon on a black enclosure.
Both the Lore MKII and Fable MKII are now available at £319 / $349.99 each from authorised Walrus Audio dealers. More information at Walrus Audio.
