WATCH: AGT winner Nene Royal joins Avenged Sevenfold onstage in Singapore to perform Bat Country and Unholy Confessions
Remember when we said America’s Got Talent winner Nene Royal would be joining Avenged Sevenfold onstage in Singapore?
Following a whirlwind rise to fame on the show, which saw her steal the nation’s hearts with her takes on rock and metal classics including Muse’s Hysteria, The White Stripes’ Seven Nation Army and Soundgarden’s Black Hole Sun, and even joining Linkin Park themselves for a rendition of The Emptiness Machine.
Yep, at just 16 years old, the Phuket, Thailand guitar prodigy has experienced staggering success, and it seems she’s still very much on an upward trajectory…
Last night at Singapore’s Indoor Stadium, Nene Royal took to the stage in front of thousands of rabid A7X fans to perform a five-track set of classic covers, including Hysteria and Black Hole Sun – staples of her repertoire following AGT – as well as Rage Against the Machine’s Killing in the Name, System of a Down’s I-E-A-I-A-I-O, and finally Zombie by The Cranberries.
But her experience didn’t end there, as she also joined Avenged Sevenfold themselves later in the night to perform two tracks alongside the band: Bat Country and Unholy Confessions. You can check out footage of the wholesome performance below:
The rest of Avenged Sevenfold’s set was chock full of classics from their discography, opening with Nightmare, Game Over, Afterlife and The Stage, before hitting Shepherd of Fire and Buried Alive, throwing in fan favourite Gunslinger, and closing with Halloween-adjacent epic A Little Piece of Heaven.
Late last month, Nene Royal – real name Rattikarn Amloy – spoke to Metal Hammer about how she landed the opportunity to open for Avenged in the first place.
“The managers in Singapore text me: ‘Oh, I hear you wanna play with Avenged Sevenfold?’” she recalled.
“I was like, ‘Yeah!’ They said, ‘Well, Avenged Sevenfold want you to support them.’ They asked for me, ‘Do you wanna do it?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah!’”
She was, of course, excited at the opportunity, but as you would be, also a little apprehensive…
“It’s my first time playing support to Avenged Sevenfold, so I was like, ‘I’m scared!’” she said. “And I’m going to play in front of how many? 40,000!”
Avenged Sevenfold’s tour continues, as they head to Oceania to perform four dates in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Auckland, NZ, alongside Coheed & Cambria and Aussie metallers Thornhill.
Check their website for dates and tickets.
