Watch Bob Weir join the Best Of All Worlds band to play a Montrose classic

Bob Weir joined the Best Of All World band earlier this week for a special guest performance during their Las Vegas residency at the Dolby Live Theater.
Grateful Dead legend Weir – who is currently also amid a Las Vegas residency with the Dead & Company band at the colossal Sphere venue – joined Sammy Hagar, Joe Satriani, Michael Anthony and Kenny Aronoff on 7 May to jam to a classic hit from Montrose, formerly fronted by Hagar himself.

Weir played Hagar’s Gibson Explorer for a rendition of Bad Motor Scooter from Montrose’s 1973 debut album. Via his official Instagram, Hagar has shared footage of Weir running through the track backstage and footage from the gig of his improvised solo. He writes in the caption, “Bob is fearless. He’s always willing to take chances with music of any kind. This was a blast. Make sure you watch it to the end.”

Both of the bands’ respective residencies will wrap on 17 May. John Mayer, who forms part of the Dead & Company lineup, shared what he’s learned from playing alongside Weir in a Guitar World interview earlier this year.
“The thing I’ve learned from Bob is to let it breathe,” he said. “And that’s changed my playing a lot. I feel like the two of us now have a very deep relationship, almost like a telepathic relationship. I know where I stand with him in the best of ways. He knows where he stands with me in the best of ways. And we don’t have to talk about it.”
As for Hagar, he recently found himself bemused with his fellow ex-Van Halen vocalist David Lee Roth announcing his return to the stage. Roth retired from live music in 2021, but is due to go on tour this July. The pair toured together back in 2002 where they went head to head and took it in turns to play the last set.
“It ain’t over until it’s over. Listen, he may not … Let’s see if he makes the shows. Who knows what Dave is up to?” Hagar told Rolling Stone when informed of Roth’s return. Asked if he would ever consider touring with Roth again, he replied, “The circumstances would have to be right. Dave always wants too much. He always tries to upstage. He tried to pull stuff on the Sam and Dave tour.”
You can still get tickets to see Dead & Company or the Best Of All Worlds band at their residency shows.
