Fender launches the Parallel Universe ’51 Telecaster PJ Bass

The only bass guitar in the series so far.

Fender’s sole bass model in the Parallel Universe series has finally arrived. The ’51 Telecaster PJ Bass is the final addition to the brand’s eccentric line, and it brings together elements from two of the brand’s most storied bass guitars.
This swanky showpiece sports a ’51 P-Bass body – made with slab ash – that’s paired with a classic black pickguard and finished with a sheen of lacquer. Things get interesting with the Telecaster-shaped, ’63 C-shaped maple neck and a 9.5-inch-radius maple fingerboard.
In keeping with the series’ bold approach, the ’51 Telecaster PJ Bass is loaded with unique sonic appointments: a ’60s split-coil P Bass middle pickup and a ’60s single-coil Jazz Bass bridge pickup.

Controls-wise, the four-string comes with a “Master Tone” knob and a dual concentric “Volume” knob. The latter comprises two layers that govern the volume of each pickup.
Rounding off this unique offering is a vintage-style four-saddle HiMass bass bridge that allows for superb sustain, intonation and tuning stability. Fender describes this bass as “punchy, growling, seismic and like nothing you’ve heard or seen before”.
