Guitar YouTuber with over 1 million subscribers announces hiatus: “I need to step back and disconnect”

After more than 11 years of uploading high-energy metal content and amassing over a million subscribers (1.27 million, to be exact), guitarist/YouTuber Nik Nocturnal has announced he is quitting the platform.
In an Instagram post, he explains: “After creating content for over 11 years, I’ve decided to take an indefinite break from uploading to focus on some important real-life stuff and figure out what’s next for me.”

As a final gift to fans, he has released a special 2000s-inspired metalcore EP titled The Lost Chapters, featuring iconic acts like All That Remains, Darkest Hour, Caliban, Bury Tomorrow, and The Ghost Inside. The EP is now available to stream and download.
Sharing his reasons for stepping away in his farewell video, Nocturnal says that years of relentless content creation have taken a toll, and admits that the grind often served as a distraction from deeper personal issues.
“I have a very unhealthy relationship with content,” he says. “There’s been a lot of scary moments in my life where I’ve lost family members… or not taken care of myself… instead of dealing with it in that moment, two hours later I’d be like, ‘All right, someone close to me passed away – guess let’s go do the stream or get the YouTube video finished.’”
“I’ve never actually taken the time to not just burn,” Nocturnal continues. “I should have taken a second and stopped. But as I got older I think what I realised the most is [that] it’s okay to take time.”
Though he hasn’t ruled out a return, the guitarist makes it clear that recovery and reflection are now his top priorities.
“We’ll hopefully, eventually, continue. But anything with content, me, or streaming, posting… I need to step back and disconnect, man. I need to take the time and figure out my shit.”

Nik’s announcement has been met with an outpouring of support from fans and fellow creators alike.
Brian Storm of Rock Feed comments, “Nik, you have brought so much joy and good vibes to all of us. You have introduced so many people to rock and heavy metal bands and lifted these genres up. We will all be here whenever you return brother.”
Swedish guitarist Ola Englund also echoes the sentiment: “Hell yeah! Your tempo and work ethics is something I truly respect. Best of luck!”
