“Built for survivors, players, and fans”: This Taylor acoustic is an exact replica of the guitar in The Last of Us

Taylor has partnered with Sony Pictures Consumer Products and HBO to create an exact replica of the acoustic Joel (Pedro Pascal) gives to Ellie (Bella Ramsey) in the second season of The Last of Us.
Priced at $2,799, the guitar is technically known as The Last of Us Replica 314c, part of Taylor’s 300 series. The guitar features a moth inlay design – as seen in the show – as well as a tobacco sunburst finish and custom double-ring rosette.

“Built for survivors, players, and fans. Crafted in partnership with the creators of HBO Max’s The Last of Us, this exact replica of the guitar played by Joel and Ellie brings the story to your hands,” Taylor writes in new Instagram post announcing the guitar.
“Built to Taylor’s highest standards, it’s more than a collector’s piece – it’s a playable tribute to resilience, memory, and music that endures.”

Other specs include a solid Sitka spruce top and solid sapele back and sides, as well as a grained ivoroid body binding, grained ivoroid fretboard inlays and a Grand Auditorium body shape with a Venetian cutaway for easy upper-fret access. Each guitar comes with a Taylor deluxe hardshell case for safe transport, “whether across the country or across the quarantine zone”.
Joel and Ellie’s shared six-string talents are an element that the show transferred directly from the games, specifically The Last of Us Part II. In both iterations of the story, Joel builds the guitar himself and sings Future Days by Pearl Jam with the guitar before giving it to Ellie to keep. The guitar’s design in the show also mirrors the game, with the moth inlay and other details intact.
Fun fact: the first shot of the game is a close-up of the moth inlay as Joel is cleaning the fretboard before giving the guitar to Ellie.
The game also introduced a virtual guitar-playing method using the PlayStation controller’s touchpad. Users can swap chords using the joystick and bumpers, then use the touch pad to strum chords or pick individual strings. The Last of Us Part II Remastered has a Guitar Free Play mode where the player can choose between different guitars, environments, and even play as Ellie, Joel, or a computerised version of the composer for The Last of Us, Gustavo Santaolalla.
