The launch was revealed in an email to fans who had signed up to the pedal’s mailing list. An official list price is yet to be revealed, although Boss has said that it will be under $200.
While the original was known best for its ‘everything on 10’ setting, heard on Swedish death metal albums such as Entombed’s Left Hand Path, it also found favour with shoegaze artists. It’s all over My Bloody Valentine’s Loveless, for instance.
The original wasn’t perfect, as by modern standards of distortion pedals it’s a little quiet, and has quite a high noise floor. The updated pedal keeps its layout about the same as the original, while also offering an improved noise floor and 3dB of additional volume.
Waza reissue will offer an additional “Custom Mode” – which delivers yet more gain and bottom-end, and increases definition in the high-mids.
A first look at the pedal arrived in March in the official Boss HM-2W Facebook group, courtesy of Boss President Yoshi Ikegami himself. He shared an image of a cosmetic prototype of the pedal in a private Facebook group that the brand set up to chart the HM-2W’s development
In his post, Ikegami also shared that Boss has faced a bit of a snag with regards to sourcing specific parts for the pedals – thanks to the pandemic – which will result in longer lead times. However, he resolved Boss would do its best to “keep consistency with [the] original HM-2 sound.”
Preorders will roll out across Boss’ dealer network starting Thursday (17 June). Find out more at boss.info.
