The Money Shot: Gibson Noel Gallagher J-150

Back in December 2019, Noel Gallagher revealed to Guitar.com that he was collaborating with Gibson on a signature version of the J-150 that’s been his go-to acoustic for 20 years. After being teased on social media in March 2021, the Gibson Noel Gallagher J-150 has finally arrived, complete with Adidas sticker and a reproduction of the handwritten lyrics for Oasis hit Little By Little – the 2002 promo video for which saw Noel’s original guitar make its first of many high-profile appearances.

Limited to just 200 pieces and priced at $4,299/£3,799, the guitar features a Sitka spruce top, figured maple back and sides and a hand-rubbed Historic Thin finish. Speaking to Gibson, Gallagher revealed that he was shocked by how close the model is to his original. “This looks like it looked the day that I bought it,” said the High Flying Birds star. “I was blown away by the finish on it, it looks amazing. The back of this looks better than the back of mine. To me, that makes me want to pick it up and do something with it. It sounds exactly like mine. Exactly. It’s a brilliant reproduction. It looks amazing, and it even smells amazing.”

The guitar’s distinctive Adidas trefoil decal was reproduced with special permission from the German sports brand and comes in the case so fans can decide whether to stick it to the guitar or not. Noel revealed that the original came from a sheet of stickers that he bought in a junk shop in Amsterdam, and that its position on his guitar was the suggestion of his daughter Anaïs.
“When I think back to the songs I’ve written and the amount of time I’ve spent holding this guitar – whether it be on stage or in hotel rooms or at home – it just becomes part of you,” Gallagher told Gibson. “I’ve played this guitar in stadiums, I’ve played it in pubs, I’ve played it at home, I’ve played it round the fucking campfire at Glastonbury – I’ve took it everywhere. There’s just something about it. I find it very very easy to write songs on this guitar.”

The project was masterminded by Gibson Brands’ EU head of marketing, Lee Bartram. “Noel Gallagher’s music not only defined a generation, but it also became the foundation to a way of life for many around the world,” said Bartram. “Truly great music has the capability to transport you to a moment in your life – a snapshot in time, one of life’s reference points. Noel’s music does that for millions who listen to his songs and travel to somewhere else, somewhere they believe they can be a rock ’n’ roll star… even if it’s for that briefest of moments. It’s been an honour to work with such an iconic artist and bringing this project to life is a small token of thanks for that music, and the belief that comes with it.”
