Asken Guitars unveils the Intercooler Drop Top

Los Angeles-based guitar workshop Asken has launched the Drop Top, a natural-finished built-to-order guitar that offers a classic, stripped-back take on the singlecut. The shop is known for its expertise in vintage guitars, offering repairs and restorations of guitars as well as a number of modifications.
The body, a single piece of chambered Honduras mahogany is topped with quilted birdseye maple – the eponymous ‘Drop Top.’ The clear lacquer finish shows off the detailed grain pattern of the top wood.
The Dop Top’s set neck is made of African mahogany, with an Indian rosewood fretboard. It’s fitted with 22 frets, and has a compound radius that runs from 7¼” to 12”. The guitar’s 25.5” scale length starts at a bone nut, and ends in a Wudtone CP holy grail – a vintage tremolo bridge for classic, subtle tremolo sounds.
The five-way selector switch will allow for a range of tones, splitting the two Ian Anderson “T-top” humbuckers for quickly accessible single coil sounds. The pickups are controlled with a master volume and a master tone control, both 500K pots.
The Intercooler Drop Top lists for $2899. More information at askenguitars.com.
