Is this the moment John Mayer finally shows us he can shred? Ed Sheeran teases hard-rocking new song that also has Dave Grohl on drums

While we eagerly await Ed Sheeran’s song with Cradle of Filth, the singer-songwriter has already dipped his toe into the rock world. Sheeran’s latest collaboration sees him joining forces with Foo Fighters’ frontman Dave Grohl and John Mayer for new track, Drive.
The star-studded collaboration will feature on the upcoming film, F1 The Movie, out 25 June in the UK, before releasing in the US and Canada on 27 June. Although we’re yet to hear the song in its entirety, F1 has shared a preview of the track on Instagram – and its sounding like a sturdy, thumping rock tune.

Sheeran shared the preview on his Instagram, explaining how the trio divided up roles. Drive sees Grohl returning to his first love, taking charge of percussion like during his Nirvana days.
“Sneak peek of the song I did for the F1 movie,” Sheeran writes. “Mayer on guitar, Grohl on drums. A lot of fun making this, coming out next month with the movie.”

The F1 The Movie soundtrack is loaded with talent, with features from Burna Boy, Madison Beer, RAYE, Tate McRae and more. The album is scheduled for release alongside the US and Canada movie premiere, dropping on June 27.
The film stars Brad Pitt as former F1 driver Sonny Hayes, who returns to the sport to train up a rookie, played by Damson Idris. The film is directed by Joseph Kosinski and produced by Pitt, Jerry Bruckheimer, and F1 icon Lewis Hamilton.

Sheeran will be releasing his new album Play on 12 September, with singles Old Phone and Azizam serving as the first taste of Sheeran’s new era. Alongside his new record, Sheeran is also embarking on a European tour at the end of this month. The tour will kick off in Spain, before rounding off in Germany right before his September album release.
In terms of Grohl, the Foo Fighters are currently only set to perform one show this year – and it’s a rather fitting one, considering Grohl’s involvement in the F1 The Movie soundtrack. The Foo Fighters will headline day two of the F1 Singapore Grand Prix this October.
You can pre-order Play now. For more information on Sheeran’s upcoming tour dates, check out his website.
