The Cribs call for reissue of their Squier “Musuar” after second-hand prices top £1,300

Indie rock band The Cribs have taken to social media to call for the revival of guitarist Ryan Jarman’s signature, the Squier “Musuar” electric guitar. The model was originally an affordable combination of aspects of the Mustang and the Jaguar, however, used prices have skyrocketed in recent years.

On Twitter, a fan sent The Cribs a screenshot of an eBay listing, which is asking £1,300 for an unboxed but never played guitar. The Ryan Jarman signature was launched with an RRP of £330.
This discrepancy led The Cribs to petition Fender for the return of the model, writing: “Think it’s definitely time for a Musuar reissue…maybe if you all reply here and let Fender know, it will happen? We get asked about this ALL the time, but it’s not up to us!”

Speaking to NME upon the guitars’ release, Jarman said: “When I was a teenager my first real guitar was a Fender Jag-Stang which was a Mustang/Jaguar hybrid designed by Kurt Cobain. That naturally led to me doodling ideas for my own guitar at college, trying to come up with my own hybrid, so essentially my guitar could be described as a Musuar.”
The launch of the Musuar was joined by a signature bass model for Ryan Jarman’s twin and bandmate Gary Jarman. This bass was based on the old Bass V, as Gary explained to NME: “Fender had a very short-lived and much-maligned bass called the Bass V back in the ’60s. It was really unpopular. I always thought it was cool and wanted to try and give it a new lease of life.”
